day 31: local jewels
It seems as though, in autumn, everything slows down, goes quiet, and that life stands still for a few moments a day. As most Montrealers already know, walking around le plateau and mile end on a chilly gray afternoon is one of the best things of what fall has to offer this city. If you have some spair time, do yourself a favor and re-visit those heartwarming diners and coffee shops in the area, and allow yourself to discover some new ones along the way. Here are some places that will definately warm you up inside and out.
Willensky’s (34 Fairmount St. West) is famous for it’s salami, bologna and mustard sandwich. Lester’s (1057 Bernard ave), on the other hand, has you craving smoked meat all week long. You could take your food to go… but why not stop and and enjoy the atmosphere. There is so much history to these places, you’re bound to be charmed. Le Cagibi (5490 St. Laurent) is perfect for vegans or veggetarians. And who doesn’t enjoy a hot cup of joe on a chilly windy afternoon? Make your way to St-Viateur St., and stop by Italian soccer fan filled Club Social or at Café Olympico for a pick me up and a game of pool. While you are on St-Viateur, you’ll want to keep an eye out for Maryska’s home cooking restaurant (69 Rue St-Viateur W). It might be hard to notice, as the windows could be all fogged up from soup vapor, filling the entire place with a comforting smell. The decor is amazing, and it’s perfect for a sit down chat with a friend or even for enjoyable mid-term studying.
All this talk about coffee… and so little music reffering to it!
