I get really excited when I receive the mixes from our guest Djs. These guys pull out impressive tunes and show off great mixing skills. This one from Rilly Guilty is no exception. For most Montrealers, Guilty is synonym for quality. His style, reflected in this podcast, is all about good vibes; presenting the beauty and deepness of house music. If you have a chance, pass by Blue Dog on Saturdays for his Usual Suspects night and make sure you grab this 4th edition of the As Heard From Mars podcast series. It’s delectable.

A small while ago, eclectic techno champs Extrawelt released the Neuland Ep on Darkroom Dubs (Silicone Soul’s label). Their sound is always astonishing, at the same time melodic and unpredictable. This one is similar to Stimming’s work. It is built around the same central groove, but variations never cease. This is how I like my techno.

Here is a very interesting track by Chaim called Locations. Released as part of the Love Rehab Lp, the tune is a good example of imaginative/clever use of vocals to push the groove forward. The use of percs is also very noteworthy. I definitely recommend buying the whole Lp which also includes Love Rehab, a dub mix of the track and a fourth tune called New Years Eve. Check it.

This tuesday was somewhat sad. It was the official departure day of Ernest. Each tape we mix has a core idea that drives the compiling and progression of the mix. We’ve mixed this one for Ernest Hon, a great friend and partying partner that has left a wide hole in our entourage.
The third podcast, mixed by Victoria Lab is a mishmash of recent house and deep house tunes featuring some techno snippets here and there. It is pretty consistent with our usual work, starring frequent breakdowns and alternating between musicality and simple yet efficient grooves. We hope you’re all going to like it (especially Ernest).

Two days ago was released Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts‘ latest effort, Breaking The Fourth Wall, on the Circus Company label. Containing eleven original tracks, the album is packed with percussive-heavy, jazzy house tracks and more reflexive ones that can’t both be enjoyed on the dancefloor or in the living room. While each track can be appreciated on its own, we strongly suggest you listen to the whole album at once to fully grasp it. To conclude, while Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts has been living in Berlin since 2003, he originates from Montreal and it is a pride to see one of us so successful worldwide. He will be back in the city on June 5th for the Mutek festival. Here’s the second track of the album for a small snippet of what to expect from the whole package.

Today’s an important date as it is the official launch date of our good friend Panton’s new ep on Southern Fried Records. Including four originals (Someday, Do It, Favela & Problem), the ep is a must-have for all techno & tech-house lovers. You can expect a lot of remixes from him in the weeks to come for big names such as Crookers, 2 Bears & Tuff Wheelz amongst others.
As a gift to celebrate the release, Panton has offered us in exclusivity his latest mixtape. A lot darker & techno-oriented than what we expected from him, the tape is very interesting and actually includes Panton’s remix of Crooker’s Royal T alongside the original track Do It.
Take a peek & stay tuned for the announcement of the official ep launch night!
