day 223: let’s go back a few

backtobasics

This new one by Mes (Satochi Tomiie) is pretty good. Lots of variety within the track and a strong skeleton to keep it all together. Definitely worth checking it out. The ep includes a remix by Motorcitysoul, which is also pretty good, and the track’s accapella for those of you who’d like to give a try at reinventing the tune (seems I’ve been saying that quite a few times lately). You can catch Mes at Stereo next friday (May 7th). Feel it.

day 224: South-pacific

I often feel the need to distance myself from the coldness of electronic music to find comfort in other genres. Receiving news about this new band called Korallreven, from Acephale helped me go through that day. I can see myself sitting on the beach of this tiny island listening to these tracks on cheap portable radio (I hadn’t even read the group was formed on the South Pacific Island of Samoa before writing this and choosing the artwork). Anyways, their album is due toward the end of the year, and is quite promising if we consider these two samples. By the way, the Radio Dept.’s keyboardist is part of this band. Fan’s should see numerous similarities in choirs and voice effects. Enjoy!

day 222: You’re Cool

Here is the living proof that you can do something very cool with a few rimshots, a voice sample, some noises and a nice synth.

MiniCoolBoysYou was released this morning on SCI+TEC Digital Audio. It includes two tracks; You and Rimmer Man, which are both very good, though the second one might get a bit intense after a few minutes through. Also included are parts (tools) from both tracks for producers to use for eventual remixes, making the ep a definitive must-buy. Check it out.

day 221: Club Foot

So, as it’s been said before, very sorry about the lack of posts in the recent weeks. We’ve been very busy, and I’m sure you were too, but from now on, we promise on updating the blog as often as we physically can. Today’s track, called Club Foot, was produced by Sascha Braemer as part of the Five Years Of Dirtybird series. A nice tech-house groove and some amusing string samples (banduraa, harp or guitar) here and there make the perfect mix for a great summer track. Enjoy!

Is this blog still running??? Yes.

Here’s a good one for you music lovers. Young producer Nicolas Jaar, electronic music rising star has recently released great chill-out tracks like “Time for us” but I came across his earlier work and was absolutely amazed by its quality. “El Bandido” was released in 2006. It’s just great.

C’est le moment pour tout laisser tomber. L’air est froid, le ciel est gris, la détente m’appelle. Bon weekend.

I’ve been waiting long enough to post some Cobblestone Jazz. They’re starting up the touring again after launching their second full length, the Modern Deep Left Quartet. I haven’t got a chance to see them live, but its a full analog trio with background in jazz music. The guys literally jam on stage. Check up their dates, and for those in London they’ll be at Fabric on April 24th. No Montreal dates yet… Here is Fiesta, a track the was released long before the album, along with an aggressive techno tune called Traffic Jam. Check out their album, Children and Chance dub are my picks.

Without even trying to feature a common theme, I think we all feel this fugitiveness here. The need for evasion. I’m not trying to make this poetic or anything even though this may sound quirky. This somewhat defines how I feel. Thank you Jacob Korn.
