AHFM Podcast #4: Rilly Guilty

Podcast 4

I get really excited when I receive the mixes from our guest Djs. These guys pull out impressive tunes and show off great mixing skills. This one from Rilly Guilty is no exception. For most Montrealers, Guilty is synonym for quality. His style, reflected in this podcast, is all about good vibes; presenting the beauty and deepness of house music. If you have a chance, pass by Blue Dog on Saturdays for his Usual Suspects night and make sure you grab this 4th edition of the As Heard From Mars podcast series. It’s delectable.

AHFM Podcast #3: Victoria Lab

Posted by VL on 13th May 2010 in Music, Podcasts

Podcast 4

This tuesday was somewhat sad. It was the official departure day of Ernest. Each tape we mix has a core idea that drives the compiling and progression of the mix. We’ve mixed this one for Ernest Hon, a great friend and partying partner that has left a wide hole in our entourage.

The third podcast, mixed by Victoria Lab is a mishmash of recent house and deep house tunes featuring some techno snippets here and there. It is pretty consistent with our usual work, starring frequent breakdowns and alternating between musicality and simple yet efficient grooves. We hope you’re all going to like it (especially Ernest).

AHFM Podcast #2: William De Samman

Posted by VL. on 6th April 2010 in Music, Podcasts

Podcast number 2

We’re really proud to present the 2nd edition of our podcast series! This one was mixed and compiled by William De Samman, a local Montrealer with an acute ear for good music and an obvious talent for finding awesome house and disco beats. If you live in the neighborhood, you can find him every friday at the Kafein shisha bar on Bishop for his weekly The Movement. Check it out!

As for his tape, it’s a brilliant mix of old and new, containing deep house, disco edits as well as some Chicago house and a hint of detroit toward the end. It’s moody and soulful.

AHFM Podcast #1: Victoria Lab

Posted by VL. on 12th March 2010 in Music, Podcasts

AHFM podcast number 1

On this grand March day, As Heard From Mars is launching a Podcast series. This succession of tapes will be compiled by DJs and producer we like, whether they be from Montreal or elsewhere. Each will be different in style and length but will always be consistent with the AHFM musical ideology. We’ve been working on this project for a while now and we sure hope you guys will be as excited as we are to get your hands on the following editions.

The first tape is one that we’ve put together toward the end of 2009. It’s house music as we like it; moody and musical, once or twice getting on the fringe of disco, and at some point momentarily falling into the mists of techno. This is just how Victoria Lab does it.
